Chiranjeevi claims he is greater than NTR

Drawing a parallel between the legendary Telugu film actor, N.T. Rama Rao and himself, the Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Monday claimed that he had more clout among the people than NTR.

Even though the PR failed to create departments in the party’s state committee due to non-availability of suitable leaders, Chiranjeevi claimed that he broke NTR’s record in constituting party committees.

“NTR set up party committees only after he came to power. We have done it before the elections. Leaders in our party are vying with each other for party posts as they are enthusiastic to serve the people. It indicates that the PR has more clout among the people,” Chiranjeevi said while addressing the PR district committees’ convention at the Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on Monday. Chiranjeevi asked his cadre to constitute booth level committees and village level committees as it is crucial to transform public response into votes in the ensuing elections.

However, the PR chief failed to clarify queries posed by party leaders on how the PR will bring about change and how it will be different from other parties. He also did not clarify how the PR will uplfit the downtrodden.[source:chiru.in]

“Telugu Desam is scared of PRP”

Yuva Rajyam president Pavan Kalyan is of the view that the tremendous success of his brother Chiranjeevi’s public meetings is creating jitters in other political parties, particularly, the Telugu Desam.

Referring to TD leaders’ criticism that PRP is like a bubble ready to burst, Pavan Kalyan said such comments itself indicate that the TD is in a panicky mood. “If PRP is a bubble, there is no need for TD to talk about it at all. The very fact that they are making comments on us shows how much worried they are about growing popularity of PRP,” he said.

He refutied the criticism that PRP was dominated by only Chiranjeevi’s family members. “Don’t worry. I am not going to contest polls, but will work as an ordinary soldier,” he said.

Birthday special: Krishnam Raju

Krishnam Raju stepped in to film industry with 'Chilaka Gorinka' (1966) in the direction of Kotayya Pratyagatma, which obtained him the Silver Nandi Award.

Although he started his career, as a villain he transformed into a star hero within a short span of time and enacted multi-faceted roles like 'Rangoon Raudy', Bobbili Brahmanna', 'Thandra Paparayudu', 'Bhaktha Kannappa', 'Amara Deepam', 'Mana Voori Pandavulu', 'Katakatala Rudraiah' and so on, which seemed to have tailor made for him and none could have justified them. His performance in 'Amara Deepam' was lauded with a President's Award and a Filmfare Award was given for 'Mana Voori Pandavulu'.

Krishnam Raju's unparallel performance gained him the nickname Rebel Star on silver screen. He then turned into producer and made 'Krishnaveni' (1974) as the first production on Gopikrishna Movies, in the direction of V. Madhusudhan Rao.

‘Evaraina Epudaina’ is all about love

What is love? – The most puzzling question of all time has been taken as the theme for ‘Evaraina Epudaina’ starring Varun Sandesh as the hero. Director Marthand K. Shankar is making the movie that poses a tag line – Premalo Padochu. AVM Production Company is producing the movie in which Vimala Raman is being debuted to Telugu screens.

At present, a song is being canned featuring the hero and heroine at the Airport and Princess Street of Ramoji Film City. Shobi is choreographing this song.

“How does love happen? Why and with whom does it happen? If we probe into such questions, no one might be able to find an apt answer,” starts director Marthand on a confident note describing his concept for the movie.

Was Pietersen forced to resign?

Kevin Pietersen again denied he was responsible for the leak of his rift with Peter Moores that apparently cost him the role of England cricket captain.

Pietersen quit as captain on Wednesday amid accusations by many commentators of allowing his unhappiness with the coach to become public, leading to the upheaval that threatens to blight England's efforts to regain the Ashes from Australia this year.

But England and Wales Cricket Board vice chairman Dennis Amiss said the ruling body believed the batsman's protestations that he was not to blame and Pietersen told Sky News TV that suggestions to the contrary were unfair.

"It's been hard, it's been horrible and it's been hurtful and disappointing," Pietersen said in an interview broadcast Sunday. "I'm not angry with anybody, I'm just bitterly hurt and disappointed that my character's been assassinated because I know I'm not a bad bloke."

Moores was fired in the wake of the rift but Pietersen said his only gripes with his former coach were professional.

"I have absolutely no personal problem with Peter Moores," Pietersen said. "He's a fantastic guy. The man does want England to win and he's passionate about winning. I just didn't feel that me and him could take the team forward."

The interview appeared to be part of a coordinated attempt by Pietersen to address accusations that he was ego-driven and had created a rift in the dressing room. He said in a newspaper interview that the ECB misinterpreted his comments in an e-mailed strategy paper he was asked to write.

Pietersen told the ECB that he was unable to lead the squad on its Test and one-day tour to the West Indies starting this month if Moores was still in charge. Pietersen said the ECB treated this as a resignation after details of his comments were leaked to the press and told him by telephone that he was stepping down.

"(England cricket managing director Hugh Morris) said they had had an emergency board meeting and they had accepted my resignation," Pietersen told Sunday's News of the World newspaper. "I said, 'On what basis has it been accepted?' They had no answer."

Pietersen said Morris did not tell him that Moores was being fired.

"I thought that one of us had to go," Pietersen said. "And I would have had no problem if they had decided it was me and Moores stayed."

Pietersen reaffirmed his commitment to his playing role in the side. He said there was no rift in the dressing room and even suggested that he had "unfinished business" with the captaincy.

Amiss said the ECB was happy for Pietersen to continue playing under his replacement, Andrew Strauss.

"Kevin is very much part of the future," Amiss told the British Broadcasting Corp. "He's offered Andrew Strauss his backing. He hopes he will regain the England captaincy. He's got this will, this desire to do well in international cricket."

Amiss said that Pietersen had considered quitting after last month's 1-0 test series defeat in India, but agreed to mull his situation while on holiday in South Africa.

"We wanted him to go away and think about it while he was in South Africa," Amiss said. "We wanted to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

Amiss, though, said his Pietersen's position as captain became untenable once his unhappiness with Moores became public.

"Once the information was in the public domain that Kevin Pietersen didn't want Peter Moores as his coach, it was always going to be impossible to resolve amicably," Amiss said. "We understand his frustration at it being leaked by other parties."

New Satyam board to elect chairman today

The new board of the Satyam Computers will meet to elect its chairman and work out a strategy to revive the company.

The new board was announced on Sunday. Last week the government disbanded the board of Satyam days after its founder B Ramalinga Raju admitted to a 7,000-crore fraud in the books.

HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh, former NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik and former SEBI member C Achuthan are the new board members. They will meet on Monday to elect a chairman.

The three experts would have a legitimate claim to seek every piece of paper or bit of information that could be related to the Rs 7,800 crore financial fraud.

The trio could prove conducive to investigation being carried out by teams from market regulator SEBI and Serious Fraud Investigation Office of Corporate Affairs Ministry.

"The board is expected to meet within 24 hours and decide (the) further course of action," Corporate Affairs Minister Prem Chand Gupta told reporters on Sunday at a press conference and added more members would be appointed to the Satyam board.

The government on Friday sacked the board of Satyam.

According to Company Law Board, the new board of the IT major can have a maximum of 10 members.

On a question if the state government would involve CBI in the probe on account of the enormity of the fraud, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy told reporters in Hyderabad that nothing prevents CBI from inquiring into this and nothing on earth prevents any other law enforcement agency from inquiring into them.[ndtv]

Court postpones Raju's bail plea hearing

A Hyderabad court on Monday deferred the hearing on bail applications filed by Satyam's three disgraced executives including Ramalinga Raju till January 16. It also deferred market regulator SEBI's plea for quizzing Raju till the same date.

Hearing on the bail plea will be taken up by the sixth Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on January 16, Raju's lawyer Bharat Kumar told reporters, adding that a team of 25 lawyers has been put together to defend Raju and others.

Besides Raju, his brother Rama Raju and Satyam's CFO Vadlamani Srinivas too are in judicial custody till January 23 and are lodged in the Chanchalguda central prison.

SEBI too had filed a petition seeking the court's nod for interrogating Raju and the two others while they are in judicial custody, but Raju's lawyer sought a day's time to file a counter petition. Following this, the court posted the matter for hearing on January 16.

The Rajus were arrested by the state CB-CID police on Friday, two days after Ramalinga disclosed the Rs 7,800 financial fraud in Satyam founded by him in 1987. Vadlamani Srinivas was arrested on Saturday.

Separate teams from SEBI and the Serious Fraud Investigation Office of the Corporate Affairs Ministry are camping in the city to interrogate Raju.

While SEBI has been questioning the company's dislodged interim CEO Ram Mynampati for a while now, the CB-CID police has launched searches in the houses of the Rajus and Srinivas.

Now, Prime Minister steps in to salvage Satyam

Salvaging Satyam seems to be the top priority for the government too. This became evident when Prime Minster Manmohan Singh met the SEBI chief on the issue.

Earlier, Satyam's three-member board constituted by the government met for the first time in Hyderabad on Monday to discuss ways to get the IT company
back on track.

Eminent banker Deepak Parekh, IT expert Kiran Karnik and former SEBI member C Achuthan arrived at the Infocity campus of Satyam for the meeting, in which the Chairman of the board is expected to be elected.

The Board members are likely to meet the press in the evening.

Satyam employees get back to work

After the government disbanded the board of Satyam following the Rs 7,000-crore fraud by its CEO Ramalinga Raju and forming a new one, things are getting to normal at the company.

Employees were seen getting back to work at its Hyderabad office after the recent days of turmoil. And they haven't lost the faith in the company.

"I am confident of the company. That's why I haven't applied for any other job," said an employee who has been associated with the company since 2007.

However, there are huge challenges in restoring the confidence of the people in the company and ensuring there is liquidity working.

AR Rehman bags the Golden Globe award

The sensational music director AR Rehman has bagged another unique distinction. Rehman becomes the first Indian to bag the prestigious Golden Globe award.

It is no secret that the SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and the BSP supremo Mayawathi are bitter enemies. So now it means that the SP will not have any truck with the PRP in the state. As such, there is no way Jaya Prada can campaign for the PRP.

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan could contest in the forthcoming parliamentary elections that are due in a couple of months.

Efforts are on to woo the actress to enter politics. Jaya Bachchan, wife of Amitabh Bachchan and Ash’s mother-in-law, is currently a Member of the Parliament on the Samajwadi Party ticket. The Bachchans share a close relationship with SP General Secretary Amar Singh.

Ghajini, a film that introduced Asin to Hindi cinema opposite superstar Aamir, was released with 1,200 prints in the domestic market and in a lot of small towns where films are not often released in the first week.

Ramalinga Raju arrested, police look out for CFO

The police have finally swung into action and arrested the former chairman of Satyam computers Ramalinga Raju. The police team lead by CID IGP VSK Kaumudi took Ramlinga Raju, his brother Rama Raju late Friday night.

The other directors, auditors of Satyam are also likely to be arrested soon. The chief financial officer of Satyam Srinivas Vadlamani is likely to be arrested today.

Ramalinga Raju along with Rama Raju and a host of lawyers drove to the DGP office to surrender. But the police say that Ramlinga Raju has been arrested and he did not surrender.

Sanjay Dutt will enter politics during the next elections and he will be fielded to the Lok Sabha from Lucknow constituency. This was disclosed by the Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

Amar Singh said that if the criminal cases against Sanjay prevented him from contesting, then the party will approach the Supreme Court.

The late Sunil Dutt was an MP from Mumbai and was also a union minister. Sanjay Dutt’s sister Priya Dutt is now an MP and she represent her father’s constituency in Mumbai. [Source:chitramala]

Vinayakudu is now Amayakudu

The film Vinayakudu staring Krishnudu and Sonia of Happy Days fame in the lead is a bog hit of 2008. The film is doing well at the box office and the hero Krishnudu is now a much sought after actor.

Superstar Krishna will be seen in a full length role in a new film titled ‘Soldier’. The film is a patriotic film and Krishna’s role has been etched brilliantly. Vijayanirmala is the director. M Krishnaveni is the producer.

Minister Kanna Lakshminarayan plays the role of a defense minister in the film. Balaji, Farzana, Pallavi are among the lead star cast. The film will be released on January 23.

Satyam Ramalinga Raju resigns, confesses fraud

Satyam Computers Founder and Chairman Ramalinga Raju has resigned from the Board. Raju has put in his papers and is waiting for the Board’s decision.

Satyam has been in news lately because of the Maytas deal. The resignation comes with shocking revelations from Raju himself.

Confessing to fraud, Raju has written a letter to the board giving details of how the balance sheet has inflated cash balances of Rs 5040 crore and accrued interest of Rs 376 crore is non-existent. Rs 1230 crore was arranged to Satyam and is not reflected in the books.

"I am now prepared to subject myself to the laws of the land and face consequences thereof", the letter said.

Raju has suggested Ram Maynampati as the interim CEO

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) says that the letter has important implications for the markets and investigation is required to find out who else is involved in this fraud.

It further added that similar disclosures should be made for the US regulators also. Meanwhile the Satyam board members are unaware of the financial situation.

Analysts are of the view that Raju’s resignation would not make much of a difference to investors. They further said that the responsibility lies on the whole Board as it was an unanimous decision where this Board is in no place to decide on the issue.

Jeevitha alleges conspiracy in Neetu’s allegations

Neetu Chandra, one of the actors in the film Sathyameva Jayathe complained against the hero Rajashekar and director Jeevitha. Neetu said that the couple had harassed an insulted her.

Rajashekar and Jeevitha have condemned her statements and said that they did not harass hr at any point during the making of the film. Jeevitha said that it was Neetu who is harassing them by making false allegations.

Jeevitha said the Neetu did not cooperate during the final phase of shooting and this caused enormous delay in the making of the film. Jeevitha also believes that there is someone behind Neetu and it is that person who is encouraging Neetu to make baseless allegations. It is obvious that Jeevitha is pointing a finger towards Chiru. Vishnu escapes in a fluke

A massive tragic accident in Thailand during the shoot of ‘Saleem’ has been averted in a split second by chance. During filming a chase scene, Vishnu nearly missed an accident when the cars crashed in unison.

Produced by Dr. Mohan Babu on Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures banner, director YVS Chowdary is directing the movie ‘Saleem’ starring Vishnu and Ileana in the lead. The crew of this movie is now in Thailand to complete some stunt scenes.

Stunt choreographer Kanal Kannan is monitoring the progress since the team landed on Jan 3rd in Thailand. Under his supervision, a scene featuring the side actors along with Vishnu involved them to jump from a moving car to a bike. But, unfortunately it became an accident resulting in the fighters injured. Vishnu barely missed and Ileana who was also in the sets.

The shooting came to an abrupt halt and after a break, it resumed on Monday. Till 25th, few more action part will be canned which will complete the schedules as planned in Thailand and Bangkok.

Neethu's assertion VS Jeevitha's contradiction

Actor Rajasekhar and Jeevitha Rajasekhar has been in the news since awhile, for the all the wrong reasons. It all started with 'Sathyameva Jayathe's heroine, Neetu Chandra's allegation which was published in a Mumbai based magazine. The movie has been completed and will be released on Sankranthi festival.

The published news in the Mumbai magazine became talk of the town a few days back. Neetu stated she was being stressed out by the couple and forced to overwork beyond limits. She was also ill-treated in and out of the sets with frequent harassments by Rajasekhar and Jeevitha. Now, it has been reported that she sent an e-mail to the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad to lodge a complaint. But, he refused to undertake it as it could be a forged mail in the name of the actress. The complaint could be submitted only by her in person, relayed the Commissioner.

Now, on the flip side, Jeevitha Rajasekhar ardently denies such allegations against them. In a reply to media people's question, she said they are ready to co-operate police proceedings if needed and they might also lodge a complaint against Neetu, who never acted as per the bond and was always problematic to the crew.

We did elucidate the press about the incident on 23rd December. And, we haven't done anything wrong in our side and it could be proved as the crew & managers were present during this mishap. All the complaints filed against us are to deceive the image of Dr. Rajasekhar and we can prove it if needed, says Jeevitha.

The scenes are not clear though the final verdict might be out soon after which we can find whose side is on high verity.

'Police-Police' this February

Reuters from media has been intimated that Sun Networks has acquired the distribution rights for ‘Police Police’ starring Prithviraj and Sriram in the cast. Kamalini Mukherjee of ‘Gamyam’ fame and Sanjana play the heroines. Producer Chandu has made the movie on his production company Pinnacle Pictures Pvt. Ltd.

The police department has always been an inspiration for cinema. Thus, taking a cue from some of the day-to-day incidents, the plot is made around the life of two policemen and their dedication to the department. Earlier, Venkatesh played a strict cop in ‘Gharshana’ which went well among the masses.

Prithiviraj is known to Telugu audience from ‘Sivapuram’, the dubbed movie from Malayalam and Sriram from ‘Okariki Okaru’. As both the actors are well established in Tamil industry, the movie has been made bilingually both in Telugu and Tamil simultaneously on a high budget. Jagapathi steps into Daya Nayak’s shoes

Audiences of Telugu cinema were overexposed to reel life heroes than real ones so far. Then, here comes a story inspired by the real life encounter specialist Daya Nayak of Mumbai. The metropolitan city filled with gangsters and dons was swiped clean by a team of police officers in which Daya Nayak was a major part.

Ram Gopal Varma, the man who is always in the news for more controversies than for the movies he make, has penned the script from the real life encounters that took place in Mumbai between 1995-2000. Jagapathi Babu plays the role of the cop that has a whole lot of resemble to Daya Nayak. The movie is being directed by JD Chakravarthy which has been titled as ‘Siddham’. After ‘Homam’, JD and Jagapathi once again comes back to churn out an action flick.

Earlier, a few movies namely ‘Ab Tak Chappan’, Kaagar, Risk (Hindi), ‘Encounter Daya Nayak’ (Kannada) were made that had deliberate overtones into the life and career of the policeman’s life. Now, ‘Siddham’ sounds to be the latest one in the line.
